Fuel Assistance/LIHEAP is a federal program that helps low-income households with their energy costs. The program is provided by a network of 22 community-based organizations including 20 Community Action agencies, the City of Cambridge, and the New England Farm Workers. Together they serve up to 160,000 households each year.
The program is crucial not only to help pay for the rising cost of heat during our cold New England winters but also to ensure safety and good health.
The CAI LIHEAP Program assists low-income residents with heating bills incurred November 1 through April 30. Communities served include Haverhill, Amesbury, Newburyport, Groveland, Merrimac, Boxford, Georgetown, West Newbury, Newbury, Salisbury, and Rowley.
