CAI Amesbury Center Food Pantry Shelves

The Community Action, Inc. (CAI) Amesbury Center works with clients to solve problems and access resources to help the client and the client's family become self-sufficient.

Clients receive information and assistance to access public benefits and resources that will help them become more financially secure. Assistance is also provided to low-income families with budget planning and landlord/tenant concerns.

The CAI Amesbury Center is located at 44a Friend Street in Amesbury, MA. 978-388-2570. 

The CAI Amesbury Center through the generosity of local churches, organizations, foundations and individuals, can provide limited financial assistance to those at risk for becoming homeless, and those facing a utility shut-off or eviction. Funds are allocated following an intake process to identify and address issues in meeting household obligations or sustaining a home. 

Eligibility for this program includes having sustainable income. This program serves primarily residents of Amesbury and Merrimac, Massachusetts.

Christmas Tree Santas

The Amesbury Holiday Program provides families with children up to 18 years of age with toys, clothes and gift cards of their choice. Christmas Tree Santa provides a real tree to The Amesbury Holiday families. These trees come with a tree stand and ornaments. Each family will also receive a certificate for a gift card to buy food for Thanksgiving and Christmas from Our Neighbors Table.

The Amesbury Holiday Program is for Amesbury residents. Proof of address, proof of income, birth certificates, ID and Social Security cards are required when registering. To register, please attend one of the following walk-in registration dates at the CAI Amesbury Center, 44A Friend Street during the months of October and November:

The CAI Amesbury Center Clothing Bank accepts donations of clean, in-season clothing for men and children only. Women’s clothing is donated from local consignment shops. Items may be donated during business hours only and are available to clients at no cost. The CAI Amesbury Center does not have the capacity to pick up and deliver any clothing or food donations. 

There are no income requirements. The CAI Amesbury Center Clothing Bank serves residents of the following Massachusetts cities and towns: Amesbury, Merrimac, Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury, and Salisbury.

The CAI Amesbury Center Food Pantry got its start in Amesbury through a collaboration of churches in Amesbury and Merrimac who wanted to help families in need put food on the table. Local parishes provide financial support that allows the Center to purchase fresh produce and gift cards for local markets. 

Food donations are also provided by local civic organizations and our partner agency Project Bread: The Walk for Hunger. Seasonal crops are also available through community garden programs and local farmers. Individuals/Families may visit the food pantry twice each month to receive food assistance. To date, our food comes from: the Merrimack Valley Food Bank in Lowell, The Lions Club, The Postal Food Drive, Pennies for Poverty and our community.

There are no income requirements. The CAI Amesbury Center Food Pantry serves the following Massachusetts cities and towns: Amesbury and Merrimac (twice a month) Newburyport, Newbury, West Newbury and Salisbury (once a month).

The CAI Amesbury Center provides the Emergency Food, Shelter, Rent and Utility Program (EFSP), a federally funded financial assistance program designed to provide emergency support to individuals and families having difficulty keeping up with household bills including; rent, mortgage and utilities (excluding telephone, cable and Internet). 

Funds are available on a limited basis and are allocated on a first come-first serve basis after completing a client intake process and determining eligibility. Eligibility for this program includes having sustainable income. This program serves Amesbury and Merrimac, Massachusetts.
